Organization Charts
Summary: Organization Charts provide a visual representation of your organizational structure within Onahiri Platform. This document covers how to use and interact with the chart visualization to effectively manage your organizational hierarchy.
Chart Overview
The Organization Chart feature displays organizational units as boxes connected by lines that represent reporting relationships. This visualization helps users understand:
- Hierarchical relationships between organizational units
- Overall organizational structure
- Reporting lines and divisions
- Span of control for each organizational unit
Chart Navigation
Viewing the Chart
To access the Organization Chart view:
- Navigate to the Places module
- Select the “Chart View” button from the view options
- The chart will display with the root organizational units at the top
Interacting with the Chart
The Organization Chart is fully interactive:
- Select a Unit: Click on any box to select that organizational unit
- View Details: When a unit is selected, its details appear in the details panel
- Expand/Collapse: Use the chevron icons to expand or collapse branches of the organization
- Zoom Controls: Use the zoom buttons or scroll wheel to adjust the zoom level
- Pan: Click and drag to move around the chart when zoomed in
- Reset View: Click the “Reset View” button to return to the default chart position
Navigation Breadcrumbs
When exploring deep organizational structures:
- The breadcrumb trail at the top shows your current position in the hierarchy
- Click on any breadcrumb to navigate directly to that level
- Use the home icon to return to the top-level view
Display Options
- Show Unit Codes: Toggle to display unit codes alongside unit names
- Show Unit Types: Toggle to display unit type indicators
- Show Metrics: Toggle to display key metrics for each unit when available
Unit Visualization
Each unit in the chart is represented by a box containing:
- Unit Name: The name of the organizational unit
- Unit Code: A unique identifier for the unit (optional display)
- Unit Type: Icon indicating the type of unit (department, team, etc.)
- Unit Level: Indicated by position in the hierarchy
- Status Indicator: Visual indicator of the unit’s status (active, inactive, etc.)
- Expansion Controls: Chevron icons to expand/collapse child units
Best Practices
For optimal use of Organization Charts:
- Keep organizational unit names concise for better readability in the chart
- Limit hierarchy depth to 5-7 levels for most effective visualization
- Use consistent naming conventions across the organization
- Consider using different unit types to visually distinguish different parts of the organization
- Export charts before major reorganizations for historical documentation
- Regularly review the complete chart to identify structural issues or imbalances
